Multidimensional visionary artist RomLawrell makes an impact with music that simply makes you feel good. It’s not an ordinary experience and he continues to transform with each daring look. We caught up with the Next Wave in music, Rom about his sound, how he leverages his social platform and why carving out his own lane is essential.

Rom describes himself as a multidimensional visionary. The Chicago born artist says it’s the best way to explain all the ideas he conjures up in his creative mind. The notion stems from the “multiverse theory” or “string theory.” Popular TV shows like “Rick and Morty,” Marvel’s multiverse films and Everything, Everywhere All At Once all tie into Rom’s idea that “there are infinite versions and realities of yourself that you can ‘jump’ to or tap into to become your best self.”

“Though I’m a music artist, the skills I’ve acquired through my career led me to opening up my mind to more,” Rom expresses.

Rom’s thinking big and dreaming bigger. He’s already had some influential career moments that have shaped him as an artist. From performing at WEHO pride in front of thousands to sharing the same stage as Lil Kim, the flourishing artist has experienced huge milestones already.

“It was a totally different audience, and demographic, not many Black artists are highlighted,” Rom describes the feeling of performing at WEHO pride in West Hollywood, California. “So to see people who’ve mostly never heard my music react in such a positive way was amazing and I shut the house down. It was fulfilling.”

Rom creates “high self-esteem” music. The music you experience whether you’re out with friends, in love with your bae or going through the tough emotions.

His latest single “Breathe” featuring artist Pendrick debuted January 2024. It’s an upbeat vibrant dance track that encourages listeners to just breathe in the midst of hard times. His one and only album Midnight Summer Drive dropped back in 2020 with 11 soul wrenching dance tracks that explore love, confidence and relationships. Rom has released a number of loose singles in between that show his constant growth.

“I’ve evolved so much,” Rom shared. “The process is surely the hardest part, but through trial and error you learn what your purpose truly is. Why am I doing it? What am I contributing?

If you vibe with iconic musicians like Usher, Beyoncé, Missy Elliott, or Sisqo, Rom knows you’re destined to become a fan of his.

“Those were the stars I saw and knew I wanted to be like that. They are all true entertainers. They embody that same energy that I bring,” Rom said of his musical influences.

Rom takes up space with a non-traditional approach just like some of the greats, who have influenced him like Missy and Sisqo. Just by being himself, he realizes that showing up authentically will take him far.

“I’m doing what I know how to do and that's me,” Rom declares.

From stretching himself as a musician, Rom speaks about working on his technique and learning to trust the journey. As the music industry becomes more accessible with new music releasing every day, Rom finds new ways to innovate a growing industry.

“Everyday fight and struggle to be heard,” Rom reveals. “Social media plays a big part in breaking through. I stopped caring about making music for everyone and just started telling my stories and let the people who love it come to it.”

That impact is felt through his growing social media platforms. With over 17k followers on Instagram and 19k supporters on TikTok, Rom pushes himself as a multifaceted artist. As a videographer, photographer, creative director, content creator and choreographer, Rom isn’t afraid to explore his many gifts.

“These are all the different versions of myself,” Rom said. “When it’s all said and done I’ll have a huge tour, and a movie that captures the full experience.”

Rom has managed to create more than a name for himself in music, but as a brand, an entity and a business. Aside from investing in himself and the music, he decided to take matters into his own hands by reaching out to heritage brands like GAP and PUMA.

“I would also reach out to brands that represented me or I felt could help amplify the story I was trying to tell,” Rom shared of his creative journey. “Through that I’ve gotten brand opportunities from GAP, Puma, cannabis brands, and tech ai companies.”

Rom’s story extends beyond music. He stays ahead of the curve by growing with technology. Aside from creating music and visual art, the multidimensional artist has also been working in the tech industry for 7 years.

“I developed my own creative app that serves as a social media marketing tool and electronic business card,” Rom told us. “Which aligns with who I am as an artist. There’s always a futuristic element to my music, style, and visuals.” The way Rom continues to find revolutionary ways to impact the industry and current market is impressive. He shares the significance of aligning his personal brand with technology, and he hopes to see more Black people in the space.

“I want to see more black ppl in tech in the future. I think merging music with tech is the future, and we need to be there benefiting while it’s happening,” Rom shared. “I'm thinking about AR/XR concerts. Virtual Reality spaces, and games that all link back to the music.”

This Black Queer artist encourages other artists who may still be working on creating their own wave in music to “just be yourself.” He warns other artists of listening to what others say and listen to their inner voice.

Rom is shooting for EGOT status and is excited for his loyal fans to join him on the ride. “I can't wait to share all the special moments with my fans and supporters," Rom shares of his excitement for the future. Be sure to check out RomLawrell’s music and creative content here.
