Next Wave: Indigo Phoenix

Indigo Phoenix is a performing alchemist, a title that captures both his artistry and his intention

Indigo shared his intention with music and how he showcases his artistic gifts. The aim is clear and purposeful.

“My objective is to influence authenticity through creatively artistic gifts,” he says, and that purpose runs through every note and performance.

Best known as a genre-bender, Indigo creates what he calls soul music at the core. He says it’s music that invokes a feeling.

He laughs while describing it as, “innovative, bold, and thought-provoking.” Adding that, “it sounds really good too.”

Indigo’s inspirations read like a roll call of icons. From Beyoncé, Erykah Badu, André 3000 and beyond, there are a number of legends that have shaped the way he creates.

“Beyoncé influences my work ethic and performance style,” he explains. “People like Badu, [Mariah] Carey, and Andre [3000] influence my pen. Prince is a vivid inspiration that reflects how I showcase my spirit.”

Those references are clear in Indigo’s ability to balance sharp lyricism with boundless energy, and in the way his performances feel like both ritual and revelation. We first witnessed Phoenix on stage in Atlanta at a Camp Collective show with a number of other artists, but it was him who impressed us most.

Indigo’s journey didn’t begin behind a microphone, but under stage lights. He started off as an actor with tons of experience in musicals. Music followed soon after, with an early EP crafted alongside Chrisette Michele.

“Through that creative process I developed my sound and identity as a songwriter,” Phoenix shared. “Now that sound and pen have grown and magnified into something I’m truly grateful for.”

But what makes Indigo’s artistry stand apart is how he’s intertwined it with his mental health journey. This is an especially poignant focus as we center our sights on World Mental Health Day (October 10).

“My mental health journey has had many ups and downs,” he admits. “I’ve developed a resilience that I’ve grown to be very grateful for. I’ve learned to love myself so passionately and that reflects in my art and my relationships. I try to use my own personal journey to be as helpful and empathetic as possible to others.”

His superpower, as he puts it, is“clairvoyant reflection.” With a microphone in hand, “it becomes a magic wand. Catch a Phoenix in the forest and he’ll tell you your future.”

That blend of vision, vulnerability, and bold expression makes Indigo Phoenix a voice that lingers. His music not only entertains—but it transforms. Indigo offers listeners a mirror into themselves.

“I’m excited to continue to grow as an artist and push through as many boundaries and climb as many mountains as I can!” he adds.

Like the mythological creature he embodies, Indigo Phoenix rises. He reminds us that even through cycles of fire and ash, renewal is always possible.
