Next Wave: Cam the Artisan 

This Black Music Month, Next Wave is spotlighting an artist who embodies what it means to stretch the boundaries of genre, identity, and artistry. Meet Cam the Artisan—an Atlanta-born creative with a meticulous pen, an undeniable stage presence, and a commitment to creating community through every verse. He’s making music that is personal, powerful, and prolific. 

At the core of Cam’s sound is a fluid intersection between neo-soul and hip-hop. 

“It’s all the things you love about both in one,” he says. 

Inspired by legends like Kendrick Lamar, André 3000, Prince, Tyler, the Creator, and Childish Gambino, Cam channels their energy by being “authentic and crazy enough to let [his] uniqueness shine through everything [he does].” That uniqueness is felt in the music, but also in the intention behind it.

Cam’s creative journey began on SoundCloud, releasing demos that reflected his evolving sound and inner voice. Now, he’s cultivating a more abounding version of himself, stretching artistic limits while showing up for his craft “to the point of personal madness.” 

Our introduction to Cam the Artisan began years ago as he navigated the Atlanta music scene with ease. We often saw the brilliant artist making his way around several prominent stages, thoughtfully building relationships with his music peers and leading executives, and just being a solid human being. These traits are all a part of his formula to success. 

Whether modeling for fashion brands or seeing his music featured on ESPN and NBA broadcasts, Cam is everywhere—and by design. 

“That’s my approach,” he shares. “Doing everything and being everywhere all at once.”

Cam’s artistry is more than just a career—it’s a calling. He describes his superpower as “meticulousness,” a fierce intentionality that guides how he moves through an oversaturated industry. 

Fans can hear his thoughtfulness and that super power shine through his art. His last project, Art Samples, Vol. 2, was released in 2023 featuring his standout track “Karate.” 

He uplifts Black art by being a safe space to express himself and encourage others to do the same. 

“I create the types of songs that I would want someone to come home and listen to after a long day,” he explains. “Songs that make people feel seen and heard.”

Cam also talks about his process, expressing that when he’s ideating on music and sharing his creations with the community, he has learned to lean into a state of flowing naturally. 

“I never want to force an idea and I never wanna force the song,” he added. “That’s how you get disconnected from the music that you’re creating, which ultimately disconnects your audience from the music you’re creating. Every song I’ve ever written has come from the heart and has never been forced in a way that people can tell that it’s not authentic to me.”

As he gears up for a summer of a lifetime with Dear Silas’ Cadillac Leather in July tour and continues growing his multi-hyphenate brand, Cam the Artisan is proof that Black music is not just sound—it’s service, storytelling, and soul. 

He lends some helpful advice for rising artists, saying, “Challenge your personal ideals… fine-tune your mindset and skills… become ultimately undeniable.”

And that’s exactly what he’s doing.
